Gut Permeability. Bog#7

In integrative health, finding the root cause of many ailments begins with the gut. Gut permeability also known as " Leaky Gut", is one of the most overlooked factors in 90% of all autoimmune and most other diseases. This was something I have learned over the course of my studies in functional nutrition and integrative health. I have come to the realization that yes, we may be at risk if we are born with a genetic predisposition, however, we don't have to accept that these are the cards we are handed and must then just live with the disease.  We have the power to heal our own bodies by providing it with exactly what it needs to heal itself.

So, what is Leaky Gut?  This is the state where the lining of your digestive tract becomes irritated or compromised, allowing substances that normally stay inside the gut—like partially digested food particles, toxins, or bacteria—to “leak” into the bloodstream. This isn’t how the gut is supposed to function, and in holistic health it’s viewed as an upstream cause of inflammation throughout the body.

When toxins get into your blood stream, this will set off an immune response in order for your body to remove these toxins from your blood stream causing inflammatory responses leading to disease.

Holistic Approaches to reverse gut dysbiosis.

  • Use bitters like lemon water or apple cider vinegar in morning upon wakening.
  • Avoid all processed foods, fast foods, fried foods.
  • Do not cook with industrial seed oils.
  • Eat whole plant-based foods high in polyphenols to reduce inflammation.
  • Fiber rich foods help absorb toxins and helps with elimination.
  • Include Omega-3 foods like salmon and flounder, can use supplements fill daily needs.
  • Probiotic foods such as Greek Yogurt and fermented foods but can use supplements if needed.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol
  • Herbal supplements- slippery elm, Aloe vera, turmeric, marshmallow roots among others.
As an integrative health and functional nutrition practitioner, it is important that I state, these tips will only help temporarily alleviate the symptoms.  My job is to get to the root cause. Therefore, working with clients on a one-on-one counseling is recommended.  My goal is to work on long-term health.

I am open to video and chat consultations. Please PM me if I can be of service.
